The progress continues on our new school. The drawings have been completed and they have been sent to the Construction-Manager-at-Risk (CMAR) for pricing. HISD expects that this pricing should be complete around March 9, 2010. After review and any negotiation with the CMAR, they will then prepare the construction contract and request HISD Board approval of the cost. The critical path for this project is the approval by the City of Bellaire of the traffic study, variance, and building permit. I have included a copy of the current site diagram that shows approximately 147 on-site parking spaces. Per HISD standards, only 85 are required. The good news about this requirement is that it will minimize street parking impacts for events and school days. Mike Lunceford has been of great help to all of us in both keeping HISD moving and helping us to dispel the many rumors that have circulated about the status of our project and the delays we are currently experiencing. Click here to view a response from Bellaire City Manager, Bernie Satterwhite in response to one such inquiry about the start of Construction being pushed from Mid-march to roughly June 2010. I commend Mr. Satterwhite on his detailed and thorough response and have included it so as to not eliminate any of the pertinent points made concerning this issue. I hope this clarifies the process for everyone and that we will all be able to show our support in the public hearings in the coming months. This has been a long process but we are nearing the start of seeing our dream for our children turned into reality.
