Spring Book FairMay 12-16, 2008
Start making your list - the Horn Spring Book Fair will be here soon! This time, we are using Scholastic as our book vendor, so you will see a few really nice enhancements, such as Adult Bestsellers, as well as a wide selection of children's books!! If you are looking for a special book, just let us know and, via our Scholastic representatives, we can get it for you in 48 hours. We also have "Name That Book!" books as well as "Summer Reading lists from various schools." Make plans to bring a special friend to the library to see all the books available for purchase. Dads ClubDads Club is an informal group of dads who gather to have fun, fellowship, and very low-impact fund raising for the benefit of the kids at Horn Academy. We are occasionally called upon for masculine duties about the school (translation: labor)—but rarely. The club meets every third Thursday of the month, even in summer. Early Language Learners - After-School Spanish, French & ChineseIn 2005, the PTO conducted a survey to determine parents' interest in an after-school foreign language program. Shared Decision-Making Committee (SDMC)The PTO president and two PTO-elected parent representatives serve on the SDMC. Chaired by the principal, this committee also includes six classroom teachers, three professional staff, one non-instructional staff, two community representatives, and one business representative. The SDMC meets monthly to discuss matters on an agenda prepared by the school principal. Any individual may address the committee or request that an item be placed on the agenda by contacting the principal. Decisions are based on “sufficient consensus” as evidenced by a 2/3 majority vote of the committee. Horn Bookworms and their parents and friends came out in full force to support this Fall's Book Fair! Total Sales were $12,111.62! We'll get a percentage of those sales to buy books & supplies for the library.
