| “Any staff, faculty, parent, guardian or other adult standing in loco parentis for a student at the school may be a member and shall have voting rights fourteen (14) days after dues have been paid.” — The Horn Academy PTO Bylaws BenefitsYour contributions to the PTO benefit Horn Academy in many ways. For example, at the start of each school year, the PTO gives each returning teacher $500 to spend as he or she wishes on classroom consumables (new teachers receive $1,000). Throughout the year, funds raised by the PTO support tangible improvements to the campus not covered by HISD. Members have voting privileges at general meetings (fourteen days after dues have been paid), and provide the quorum needed for PTO officers to conduct business at general meetings. Membership Fees & Tax-Deductible DonationsJoining the Horn Academy PTO costs $5 per person, and your membership is good through May 31 of the current school year. The $5 per-person membership fee is not tax deductible, but any donation over and above this amount is tax deductible. How To JoinTo join, simply complete a membership form and return it, along with a check made payable to Horn PTO (or cash), via your child's red folder, to the PTO Membership drawer near the office, or to the Horn PTO post office box (see Contact Us). Complete a Background CheckAt the start of each school year, everyone who volunteers in any capacity at Horn must register as described on our VIPS and VISITS web page.
